Hospital infrastructure and medical services in Guinea-Bissau are generally insufficient to assist the population, and doctors lack specialized training in diabetes care.

One of AAPDGB’s first and biggest ongoing projects, in collaboration with the Simão Mendes National Hospital and the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) is the establishment of a new medical unit specialized in diabetes.

Based at the Simão Mendes National Hospital in Bissau, the unit will be equipped with the appropriate medical devices, where diabetic patients will get consultation delivered by professionals with expertise in diabetes that will be trained by specialists from HUG and other international health institutions.
